Note: When this guide was originally created, the Division system was implemented (like Regiments) and each Division had it's own color. However, this system has been reverted to the Regiment system and all Legionnaires wear a tabard that excludes any divisional marking. Please make note this when reviewing this guide.

Bias Tape

findcenter To start with, you will need to make the White Bias Tape.
First Cut your white cloth into Three inch strips. Next Fold the white strip in half and press as shown.
centerline This process will create a center seam that you will need for the next step
leftandrightfoldandpress Fold down one side towards the center and press.
Do this again for the other side.
after you are complete with the side pressing, your bias tape will look like this.
completebias Fold in half again and press

Trimming

sidebias Attach the bias tape to each side of the tabard (longest side)
biasforfrontandrear Fold down one edge of the Bias tape and press.
startingthefrontandrearhem Place this piece at the bottom hem of the tabard and stitch.
frontandrearhem Before you reach the end of the Bias Tape, you will need to fold over the other edge of the bias tape to complete the hem.

Head & Neck

shorteningthefront1 After you are completed with adding the edge bias tape, shorten the front of the tabard (as shown).
pressingfortheneck Press the seam, fold in half widthwise and press again.
cuttingtheneckhole Mark four inches (or more) at the pressed corner and cut a circle. This creates the neck hole.
layingouttheneck Start the neck bias tape at the center rear of the tabard.
beginningtheneck And carefully stitch down the bias tape around the edge of the neck hole. When you reach the end, fold over the bias tape as you did with the tabard hem and complete the stitch.

Patches

patchbeginninggutsstitch To make a Rank or Longevity Patch, cut a piece of blue cloth (approx 2 1/2” x 3 1/2”)
Place cloth onto a piece of paper and set into your sewing machine.
patchgutstitch1 Using an appropriate color, zigzag stitch a line across the patch.
patchgutssecondstitch Go back over your stitch. This creates a clean line.
patchedgestitch1 Create an edge stitch around the perimeter of the patch.
patchsecondstitch As with the colored stripe, go back over the edging stitch.
When you are complete, remove the patch from the paper and sew directly to the Tabard.
For more information about authorized rank and longevity patches, see Codex Legion

Manticore

manticorestartingmaterials To make the Manticore. Print a copy of the manticore image (enlarged to fit nearly to the edges of an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper)
pinningthecloth Pin a piece of white cloth to the piece of paper
creatingthemanticore1 Set the manticore into your sewing machine
creatingthemanticore2 Begin using a zigzag stitch and trace along the lines of the manticore image below.
creatingthemanticore3 Trim the manticore out of the white cloth (I usually leave about 1/8” edge) and place centered on the tabard.
placingthemanticore Slide a piece of paper under the manticore and pin. Next place the tabard into your sewing machine and use a zigzag stitch to attach the manticore. When you are completed with attaching the manticore, use some red thread to create the tongue and claws of the manticore (make sure you have not removed the piece of paper when you do this… the paper makes it MUCH easier)
tabardcomplete Trim off all the excess threads, attach any necessary rank or longevity patches.
