The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is the premier American museum for the display of medieval Arms & Armour. For most of us, getting to this American mecca of medieval artifacts is not something we are able to do at a moments notice. However, that does not prevent us from being able to utilize the resources that the MET has to offer.
One such resource is a series of Thematic Essays that is posted on the Met Museum website. One of these is the same as the title of this article 'The Decoration of Arms and Armour.' There are many more of these essays, and while they are not full research articles, they indeed should give you plenty of inspiration and initial research material to get you started in not only medieval armour research, but in all aspects of artistic expression. |
