The Royal Armouries are the United Kingdoms National collections of Arms and Armour throughout history. For those of us in the United States, getting to see these collections are generally left to wishes and fancy as a vacation trip to be thought about, but not necessarily accomplished.
However, there is an alternative in Louisville Kentucky. According to the Royal Armouries website, in 2004 the Royal Armouries and the Frazier International History Museum collaborated in bringing a piece of medieval history to the United States. The entire third floor of the Frazier Museum is dedicated to the collections of the Royal Armouries from 1600 to the 1900's.
To read more about this see both the Royal Armouries website and the Frazier International History Museum. |

History is a great part of any organization... and besides, digging though some old files, I have decided to upload a couple of new galleries showing some of the events that House Manticore participated in during some of its earliest years.
Take a new look out the House Manticore galleries... and if you recall some of these events, then you really have been around for a while. If you do not, then here is a peek in to that history. |

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is the premier American museum for the display of medieval Arms & Armour. For most of us, getting to this American mecca of medieval artifacts is not something we are able to do at a moments notice. However, that does not prevent us from being able to utilize the resources that the MET has to offer.
One such resource is a series of Thematic Essays that is posted on the Met Museum website. One of these is the same as the title of this article 'The Decoration of Arms and Armour.' There are many more of these essays, and while they are not full research articles, they indeed should give you plenty of inspiration and initial research material to get you started in not only medieval armour research, but in all aspects of artistic expression. |
